Hey everyone! Wow, long time no talk. Yes, I am actually alive but barely keeping my head above water to be honest. The preparation to apply for grad school has been all consuming. I’ve been taking courses to re-certify many of my certifications to keep them up to date, working, and studying for the GRE. The GRE right now is the bane of my existance. I’m getting better at the verbal part, but the math is still a tough spot for me and to be honest, I’m stressing quite a bit about it. We have had a lot of school snow days and holidays that have kept me from studying. I can’t get any studying done when the kids are home and by the time 8pm rolls around, I’m exhausted and my brain can’t even process math. If I get into school I’m going to have to figure out how to make my brain work in the evening because there will be a lot of evening studying.
My half marathon training is still going strong although I’m really sick of the treadmill. What?! Did I just say that? I think it’s the winter blues that are getting to me. My body has been craving the Vitamin D but running outside has been close to impossible. The hubby is traveling a lot and any moment I have kid free needs to be spent studying. I’m at least getting my long runs in every week, but I’m still winging it. I’m still putting a dollar into a jar for every mile I’ve run, and that has definitely continued to be a motivator….it’s actually kind of fun! I’ve been running about 20 miles per week and throwing in some strength training. I even made it to yoga with Mar!
And I’ve been practicing my handstands at home. Happy Fit Mama inspired me to build up my arm strength by doing the version for a while and score, it doubles as a bridge for the kids to run under.
I got a new pair of running shoes that I’ve been loving. I wanted something lighter weight for speed and tempo work and had been dying to try the new Asics FuseX. It was love at first run.
Sleep has been getting better! I had talked about how my 4 year old has never slept through a night in his life a while back. Well, we still haven’t gone to a sleep specialist, but the combination of a star chart, “monster spray” and a small lamp in his room has helped. Yes, we resorted to bribery. I really didn’t think this was a physical issue and I’m pretty sure I was right. He was so obsessed with his brother’s Star Wars watch, that I went out and bought one for him and used it as a carrot, and it has worked. I’m sure all of the parenting books say this is the absolute WRONG thing to do, but screw that. It’s about survival people, survival. My “monster spray” is a small spray bottle of water and lavender essential oil, and he has to spray the room every night. Whatever works. I started using an essential oil diffuser in my room at night to help me relax and it has worked! I’ve been keeping track on my Garmin Vivofit2 (affiliate link) and I’m shocked at how much more “deep” sleep I’ve had since I started diffusing the oils. More to come on that!
On some fun notes….
I will be back for a 2nd year in a row as a Rock N Blogger!!
I’m super excited about this as it was such an amazing experience last year! I should have my discount codes coming soon, so stay tuned! Now to try and nail down the races to do!
And another fun thing…as most of you know I am a Momentum Jewelry ambassador. I’m totally obsessed with their motivate wraps. Well, if you haven’t heard yet, Momentum Jewelry is starting this awesome campaign called #sharetheSpark.
They have come out with two limited edition motivation wraps, “NEVER GIVE UP” and “YOU GOT THIS”. For the next 2 months, 80 of my fellow ambassadors will be spreading the love worldwide by gifting these wraps to anyone they think could use a little extra motivation and inspiration. It could be a friend, relative or a stranger off of the street. I am so excited to do this! In fact, for the next two months, you can get your own #sharetheSPARK wrap for only $10 (normally 18.99) off of the Momentum Jewelry website! That is an AWESOME deal and cheap enough to get one for yourself and to share the love with a friend! I just bought one for myself today I loved them so much!
Well, that’s about it for now. I’ve got another busy few weeks coming up. As if studying for the GRE wasn’t enough, I’m switching jobs and have to go to hospital orientation and then orient to my new PICU. Seriously, I must be a glutton for punishment! Go big or go home right?! I will be so glad when March is over!! Hope you all are doing well! I’m keeping up with ya’ll as much as I can. I’m slowly chipping away at blog comments and reading others blogs! Slowly but surely I’ll get there!
Do you wear a different shoe for speed work?
Will you join the #sharetheSPARK movement and spread the love?!
