Hey everyone!! Man, I feel like I’ve been gone forever and it’s only been a week. Not gonna lie, it feels weird to be only posting once a week but I’ve managed to get a lot of studying done. I don’t think I realized how much time I actually spent on blogging in a day until I stopped and used that time to do other things! I’m excited to be back today and linking up with Tricia and Holly for the Weekly Wrap!
This week consisted of a LOT of GRE studying. I decided to not do an in-person prep class but an online one instead. So pretty much all of my free time without the kids has been at Starbucks studying. I tried studying at home the first few days and it just wasn’t happening. I was finding any and every excuse to find other things to do. I mean I would clean bathrooms to avoid studying and I DON’T do bathrooms.
I’m not going to lie, this test has me very stressed out. I have never been good at math. I made it to remedial algebra as the highest level in high school for goodness sakes so it does not come easy.
I can figure out medication doses at work with no problems, but the second you through an a+b= 1/2x -b*c, forgeddaboutit.
My brain literally shuts down.
So I’m trying to overcome that struggle and not getting into a lot of negative self talk, but it’s hard. This may be the biggest challenge I’ve faced in a while. Now I know the purpose of the GRE, to weed people out. Because there is no way in hell this can be an accurate predictor of how someone would do in grad school.
No way, no how.
I did get some workouts in though, so that’s a bonus. I can tell I need to stay consistent with them because they are going to be a huge stress reliever for me.
Monday: 3 miles on the treadmill followed by Hammer & Chisel–Chisel Balance. Now, I’m not a Beachbody coach, nor do I want to be, but I’ve accumulated a ton of these beachbody DVD’s and I’m totally digging this one. It’s all about the strength training! I like it so far but it’s tough!! The Chisel Balance is awesome for runners because it’s all about focusing on one-legged exercises. Deadlifts, squats, lunges, etc. The booty was on fire when I was done!
Tuesday: Tempo scheduled for today, 1 easy, 5 @8:05, 1 easy. Yeaaaa, that didn’t happen. My lungs are far from being in 8 min/mi shape for 5 miles. I can pull off a few, but I had to alter the workout a bit. I ended up doing 2 easy @ 9:20, 8:30, 8:31, 8:26 and promptly got off the treadmill. Didn’t even cool down. What NOT to do.
Not even wine could get my legs moving today….tempo run on the schedule and totally bombed. My lungs are clearly not up to 8 min paces yet. I had to cut it short by 2 miles. Some days you’ve got it and some days you don’t. It’s so important to not beat yourself up and just move on to the next run! #motherrunner #willrunforwine #fitfluential #sweatpink #fitmom #halfmarathontraining #asics #gorunit #werunsocial #garmin
Wednesday: Hammer & Chisel IsoStrength DVD
Thursday: I was hoping to hit the track with my MRTT ladies but the hubby didn’t make it home from his trip on time, so I did my speedwork on the treadmill.
BTW, started watching Making a Murderer on Netflix and I’m not really sure what the hype is. I was kind of bored and switched shows after the first episode. Do I need to keep watching and get past the first few episodes or what? Anyone else watching it? Snore if you ask me.
Anyway. 1 mile warmup followed by 800 x 5 with 1/2 mile cool down (400m rest intervals inbetween). Goal pace was 3:31…yea, that didn’t happen either. Ended up with 3:49, 3:49, 3:48, 3:43, 3:45
This is how my brain feels studying for the GRE. It hurts my brain, seriously. How in the world does this test predict how you would do in grad school? Had to resort to the treadmill in the middle of studying for some speed work to clear my mind. Nothing like a good set of @bartyasso 800’s to soothe the soul. What the hell did I get myself into?? #motherrunner #fitmom #sweatpink #fitfluential #womensrunningcommunity #asics #yasso800s #werunsocial # #gorunit #shethoughtshecouldsoshedid

Saturday: Today was supposed to be my long run but the hubby was home and we had a million errands to run and it just didn’t happen. And oddly enough I didn’t really care. Because I know that I’m not going to PR Shamrock in March I kind of feel like my motivation to train super hard is not there right now. And with my lack of sleep (yea, Mini #2 has been sick and up frequently after having 1 week of sleeping awesome. Two steps forward 2 steps back), my motivation to get my butt out of bed is lacking.
So, because of my laissez faire attitude about training I decided I needed something to keep me a little more accountable. I had started this last week, but had forgotten to mention it!
Trying to turn over a new leaf…I’m a terrible saver so this year I’m trying something new! $1 in the jar for every mile I run!💰💰💰 Thinking of all the new @asics shoes I can buy 😇😇 Thanks to @runnersworldmag for the idea!! #motherrunner #sweatpink #fitfluential #werunsocial #gorunit #asics #womensrunning #runnersworld
And I also got some new running gear to try and put a little fire under my tushy to get moving and I had some extra Christmas money, so I treated myself to some awesome new Oiselle gear!! I’ve head Oiselle envy for a long time but had been afraid to veer away from my beloved Lululemon. Well, I decided to give it a shot and I”m totally in love. I may be converting…
Soooo excited to get my very first @oiselle purchase in the mail!! I have had a bit of #oiselle envy for a while now and finally bit the bullet with some Christmas money I got! Can not wait to test these out on a run!! #motherrunner #flystyle #sweatpink #fitfluential #fitmom #womensrunningcommunity

Saturday night I went out with a bunch of girlfriends into the city for some serious fun. I hadn’t been out for a full on girls night in a LONG time. I mean we got dressed up and hit the town. It was a lot of fun, but a LOT of champagne was consumed. I mean A LOT.
Sunday: Forced rest. HUNGOVER. I seriously haven’t been hungover in forever. I remember it quite different when I was young and single and could lounge around on a couch all day. That’s not how it happens when you have kids apparently and your husband leaves for a trip at zero dark thirty. Me and the boys and a raging headache, not so fun. Thank goodness this is a rarity. Ouch.
I’ve been doing Laura’s 21-day reset and it was going really great until the end of the week. I’m a terrible stress eater and the stress of the GRE studying got to me and I reached for the cookies. And then that snowballed as it usually does, so I’m hoping to get back on the horse this week after my head clears.
Oh well, nobody’s perfect.
I did make her amazing Almond chia protein fudge…OMG, this stuff is so addictive, just be warned.
Anyway, that’s the rundown from here! I hope you all have a great week!!
