Hey guys!! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Thank you all so much for your thoughts on my break from the marathon! It’s the right decision for now and I’m excited to work on some new things! I’m linking up today with Tricia from Missippipiddlin and Holly from HoHo Runs for the Weekly Wrap!!
The last two weeks following the marathon have been tough. My legs are just plain old tired. I took about 6 days off after MCM and used them as total rest days. Granted the first three I could barely walk down the stairs, so those were forced rest days. I had to walk down the stairs backwards and I did it so much that the boys started to walk down the stairs backwards. I did my first run about 7 days later for about 3 miles. My legs felt so heavy and I just didn’t want to run, it was a struggle. So I decided to get started on some other stuff to give my brain and body a change of pace.
This week ended up being tough because Mr. Cupcake left again on another trip for 8 days. He left on Halloween night, but luckily was able to stick around for about 30 minutes of trick or treating.
The boys are OBSESSED with Star Wars so this family costume really was a no brainer. Even the pumpkins had to be Star Wars themed. Gotta give credit to Mr. Cupcake on that one, it’s pretty impressive if you ask me! Mini #2 was sick unfortunately for Halloween, he had a 102 fever when we took him out. I didn’t want him to go but he insisted that he go out. I pulled him around in the wagon and he hopped out when he wanted to. Poor guy. He ended up having a fever of 102 for 5 days! I finally took him to the doctor on day 5. I don’t typically rush my kids to the doctor. As an pediatric ICU nurse they have to be pretty sick for me to take them in. Seriously, like life, limb or loss of eye sight before I’ll take them in, lol. He didn’t have many symptoms except for a fever and a cough, but after 5 days that high I wanted to make sure he didn’t have an ear infection….He hadn’t been sleeping at night so I knew that was a good possibilty and what do you know….Ear infection. Went on antibiotics and now is much better, but he did miss 2 days of school. The next day after Halloween I went out to run some errands and saw this in our neighborhood. It was put up to tell people to slow down because of trick or treaters….and this is what it said the next day….hahaha, some prankster!
With a sick kiddo, time to dig out some DVD workouts. I really love the Piyo video’s so I did Piyo sweat. That one is no joke!! Beast is my favorite move… It’s so much harder than it looks and a great way to engage the core!
Excited to really focus on some cross training now that #marathontraining is over. Getting back to #piyo and the beast! Have you tried this move? Get on your hands and knees in table top position and then lift your knees and engage the core…beast is right! Harder than it looks! What is your favorite core move? #motherrunner #crosstraining #corestrength #chasingthebird #fitness #fitmom #fitfluential #sweatpink A photo posted by Sue (@thismamarunsforcupcakes) on
Finally Mini #2 went back to school, so I went home and did Piyo Lower body and Lower Body Fix.
Unplanned rest day. My legs were so incredibly sore, I could barely walk. Is that a sign that you don’t do enough leg strength training??
Oh yes, #thestruggleisreal This is was how I was for days after the #marinecorpsmarathon and now it’s back after doing a leg workout. Guess I neglected strength training too much. This is not fun in a 4 story townhome. More reason to stay consistent now that training is over! #motherrunner #strengthtraining #sweatpink #fitfluential #fitness #fitmom #ithurtssogood #chasingthebird A photo posted by Sue (@thismamarunsforcupcakes) on
My legs were still super sore, but I decided I needed to try and do something to get the legs moving and help this lactic acid get out of my muscles! I did 4 mile run on treadmill and Piyo core. Yea, it didn’t help. Note to self. Do legs more than once every 4 months.
Ok, so I’m supposed to be Rocking the Strip at Night next weekend and seeing that I haven’t run more than 4 miles since the marathon 2 weeks ago, I was hoping to get a 10 mile run in. Hubs was still out of town, so to the treadmill it was.
My view from the mill…
These boys seriously have to be by my side every time I run. They are usually beating the crap out of each other, so this was a nice change of pace for them to be playing quietly together….for like 5 min, then the chaos ensued of course. Anyhoo, my legs wanted no part of this run and neither did I. I just have had no desire at all to get them moving again. I managed to push out 6 miles, but that was a huge chore. I even had to do run/walk intervals so I didn’t quit earlier. 6 miles is better than nothing I guess. I’m hoping that the excitement of running on the Strip in Vegas will help push me along next weekend.
It was a lazy rainy day so I decided that instead of climbing the walls at home I would take the boys to see a movie. We went to see the new Peanuts movie and it was so awesome. Totally old school Peanuts. No villans, no monsters, no fighting, just good old fashion fun. The boys loved it too. And might I add I will take them any time they want because look at this….
Oh yea….reclining chairs and they were SOOOO comfy. I did NOT want to leave.
Mr. Cupcake was scheduled to come home on Sunday night but he surprised us and came home on Saturday night instead! I was very excited because it meant I may get to try a run outside the next day! Oh and of course I was excited to see him too :p
I decided to meet up with some old BRF’s and let me tell you, that was exactly what I needed to get my love for running back. I almost went without my watch, but who am I kidding, I couldn’t. So I wore it, but I kept the face turned off so I couldn’t see pace or distance and it was really nice. I didn’t look at it once. It was a gorgeous fall day in DC (and I got to mess around with the GoPro)!
We ended up with 11 miles and it felt like 5. It’s always awesome when a run feels so effortless. Pace was around 9:30 and I felt like I could have kept running forever. It was AWESOME.
The last couple of years I have done my first long run back at the scene of the crime….well, the finish line of MCM. It’s almost like closure. I need to run up that bitch of a hill at the finish and cross it again. It’s kind of like closure for me. I can close the chapter and move on, and that is exactly what I needed. Done and done. Time to move forward!!
Well, that’s about it! I’ve got a busy week ahead! I’m volunteering in Mini #1’s classroom, working and then heading to Vegas for the weekend! Whooo hoo!
