Well hello there!! I’m a day late and a dollar short on this weekly recap seeing that you are reading this on Tuesday instead of Monday, but oh well. I had an epic time at Ragnar despite running in a Nor’easter. I won’t go into details on Ragnar here though, I’m going to dedicate a separate post for that!!
I can’t believe that taper time has finally arrived. I can’t tell you how excited that makes me. I’ve gotten to the point where running has literally taken over my life and I’m ready to have some time to focus on other things, such as my family and my house. Everything seems to get pushed to the side during training, especially this time around since I’ve been running 5 days a week instead of 3 like I am used to.
So where did we leave off? I think the last time I recapped I had run my 20 miler at super speed and then spent 2 days resting to recover.
On the plan: 90 min @ 1st gear
What actually happened: 9.6 miles in 90 minutes (9:22 pace).
I took this one super easy because even after 2 days of rest my legs were extremely tired.
On the plan: 10 min @ 1st gear, 5 x 2 miles at MP with 4 min rest interval
What actually happened: 12.5 miles with an average 8:52 pace
On the plan: 75 min @ 1st gear
What actually happened: 5 miles in 49:02 (9:50 pace)
This one didn’t go as well as I had hoped, but my legs were exhasuted. After almost 40 miles in 5 days I was pretty much done. Plus I was feeling very low energy and felt like I might be coming down with a cold. I called it quits and decided to let my body rest especially since I had Ragnar coming up.
On the plan: REST
What actually happened: REST
On the plan: Leg 1 of Ragnar
What actually happened: 6.8 miles in 1:04:32 (9:23 pace)
On the plan: Legs 2 & 3 of Rangar
What actually happened: Leg 2 = 6.9 miles in 1:07 (9:38 pace)
Leg 3 = 6.9 miles in 1:01 (8:47 pace)
Pretty sure I’m completely delirious at this point with absolutely NO sleep for 36 hours. I killed this run on pure adrenaline only. I just wanted to be done.
REST REST REST!
So here we are in taper land! I’ve got 3 days of rest planned which I am super excited about and a 2 hour long run for the weekend. I was supposed to run the Army 10 Miler on Sunday but both my husband and I registered and now we can’t find a babysitter. So, I told him he could run since he never gets to do any races since I dominate the racing time. In my defense, he doesn’t really show interest either but I figured I’d be the good wife and let him have this one 😉
What do you do to keep busy while tapering for a race?
Do you love to taper or hate it?
