Hey everyone! I’m feeling a bit discombobulated as I worked two nights in a row this weekend and I’m absolutely beat. So I’m a day late in getting my training recap up, but such is life.
I also wanted to clarify something about my Day in the Life post. I feel like I kind of sound like a complainer when I talk about my boys, and I’ve been feeling a little bad about that. I want ya’ll to know that I’m a very sarcastic person, so while some of my comments may sound like complaining, they are usually in jest….well, most of the time. This blog is my safe haven to be able to vent about the trials and tribulations of being a stay at home mom and how I cope with it via running. I never in a million years thought I would stay at home with my boys. I told my husband that I would work once we had kids and life circumstances happened and here I am. I love my boys to death and while I do sometimes whine about how tough it is, I am so incredibly lucky to be able to have the opportunity to do so and I wouldn’t give it up for the world. They sure do keep me on my toes though and keep me laughing with the crazy things they do, and on occasion stress me out….with that said….guess what happened this week?! SCHOOL STARTED!!! WHOOO HOOO!!!
Training went pretty well this week. I haven’t been having any issues with my hip, knock on wood. My paces have been right where I want them and I’m feeling good. If only I could get some more runs outside I would be a happy camper.
This was a crazy busy day. I ran around like crazy doing I have no idea what, but I was busy. I didn’t get to run until 6 pm which is very unlike me. I’m definitely not a late afternoon/evening runner. I mean I can do it, but I hate every second of it! My plan called for a 35 min run in Gear 1….4 miles in 36:10 (9:03)
Can I tell you how much I love tempo runs? I just love them and I don’t know why. I enjoy doing them on a treadmill even more because it helps me get to my goal pace and stick with it.
40 min tempo, 14 min @gear 1 (9:05), 12 min @ Gear 2 (8:20), 14 min @ gear 1 (9:13) for a total of 4.5 miles. I followed that up with a little PIYO buns and holy buns batman. My glutes were on fire after that!
My schedule was thrown off a bit due to some family comittments we had this week so I had to do a two-a-day this day. I guess it’s good practice for Ragnar now that I think about it! The first run was 4.4 miles in 40 min (9:11 avg pace) , and the second was 3.2 miles in 30 min (9:22 pace) for a total of 7.6 miles.
School started for Mini #1…seriously, how did this kid grow up so fast?
I dropped him off in his class and I must say I got a little verklempt….
When I dropped him off at Kindergarten last year I didn’t shed a tear. But there is something about first grade, it’s like “real” school now. No more classroom filled with toys, this is all about school and learning and I’m sooooo excited for him, and scared all at the same time. After I dropped him off I headed to the gym and took a yoga class. My attendence in yoga has been far from consistent recently but I’m hoping that in September after things settle down a bit I can get there more often.
I don’t typically do my long runs on Friday but I was scheduled to work night shift all weekend, so I had to do it this day instead. Another long run on treadmill, shocker I know. This was another LSD run which I hate. The 3:3 ratio breathing is really hard, but my coach assured me it would get easier the more I did it. Run slow to run fast, run slow to run fast….my new mantra I guess.
90 min run= 9.5 miles (avg 9:26 pace)
He was right! My first LSD was a 10:00 pace. There IS something to it!
This was a rest day for me as I had done my long run on Friday. Something fun I did get to do though was meet up with the awesome and amazing DC Trifecta Courtney, Mar and Cynthia for a #DCBloggerbrunch at Matchbox in Chinatown!
It was so great to meet up with some amazing local bloggers, some of whom I new, some of whom I knew virtually and some I was meeting for the first time!
I may have enjoyed the cinnamon buns a little too much…..it’s the rungers people and I’m sticking to it!
I slept all day and went back to work for more fun in the PICU!
There you have it! Another week down. Hopefully I’ll bounce back quickly from these night shift because I really want to crush my training this week. Here’s hoping!
Tell me how YOUR training is going!
Do you like cinnamon buns?
What is your favorite splurge to eat during training?
