Another crazy busy weeks in the books. I’m linking up again with Tara from Running N Reading for the Weekend Recap, or in my case I’m going to bore you with what’s been going on for the last week! It’s been a crazy weekend per usual and I actually had absolutely no time to write a post this weekend so it’s 3am and I’m on my break during my night shift at the hospital! This is a first for me! Thank goodness for the WordPress app! Not sure how the formatting will be so if it looks a little out of sorts please forgive me!
Anyway, the week didn’t pan out quite as I had hoped with my workouts. Here’s how it went down.
Monday: Shoulders/arms strength circuit, HIIT sprints for 3 miles total
Tuesday: 60 min vinyasa flow yoga class
Wednesday: Mr. Cupcake took the day off so we decided to go for a run together. I was planning on an easy run, but that didn’t happen. He asked me how far I wanted to go and at what pace and when I told him I didn’t know and that I was going to run based on how I felt, he looked at me like I had 10 heads. He couldn’t understand how I could go out to run without having a plan or a goal in mind. I told him I had been in training for so long that I just wanted to run without a plan. He was flabbergasted.? He really didn’t understand. So I ended up running way faster than I had wanted. When we run together I feel bad that I’m slowing him down so I end up speeding up. Ended up with a total of 4 miles at an 8:37 pace. The last mile I had to tell him to go on without me because I was huffing and puffing. Yep, not sure when we will do that again…we don’t make the greatest running partners. Oh well, while its nice to be able to run together, I like having this one thing to myself, does that make sense? After I got home I did a lower body/glutes/hip strength workout.
Friday: Rest. This is how I got behind on my blogging. We had Mini #2’s end of year preschool program (BTW, I am so NOT ready for school to be over). Anywya, I had found a babysitter for the boys for Friday evening, made reservations at a new restaurant I wanted to try and didn’t tell Mr Cupcake until Friday morning, thought it would be a fun surprise. When I told him he said that he had turned down plans to go to dinner at an old friends house. (Apparently the wives were invited too) He hasn’t been able to see his buddies in a while so I said that’s ok, let’s go there instead and I’ll cancel the reservation. So as we are sitting in the church pew watching the Mini sing “If you’re Happy and You Know It” he’s texting me dessert recipes for me to make to bring with us to the dinner. Because I had no other plans and I clearly had time to go home and bake a cake?! So that’s what ended up happening….
Looks yummy doesn’t it?! Yea, I wouldn’t know because our babysitter ended up cancelling at the last minute (though no fault of her own, she was sick). So I made Mr Cupcake still go to the dinner because there was no way in hell I was letting that cake stay in my house!!
Luckily the dinner reservation didn’t go to waste because Annmarie, aka The Fit Foodie Mama was in town and they couldn’t find a reservation anywhere so her and her hubby were able to use the reservation!!
Saturday: Annmarie and I had been in touch and had planned on trying to meet up. We weren’t really sure what her schedule was going to look like, but luckily it worked out that we were able to meet for a run. She was an amazing sport and let me drag her out of bed at 5am to go for a sunrise run around the monuments in DC. It doesn’t get much better than that and I thought she would totally love seeing the sights this way. It was a fabulous run despite the humidity and actually come to think of it, the company was the best part. Annmarie is so sweet and easy to talk to, we chatted the entire 8 miles and it felt like we had known each other forever! I am so grateful for this running community and all of the wonderful people that I have met because of it!!
I brought her back to her hotel, we had a tea and coffee at Starbucks and parted ways. It was a great morning!
As soon as I got home It was time to go to Mini #1’s school 5K! He was so excited. He’s been working really hard on laps at school everyday to work for this and he did a great job. I mean compared to the Color Run last year anything would be better! He was SO excited (ok and so was I!)
After the 5K we went home, grabbed some lunch and headed out to baseball. I’m not a big fan of enrolling kids in a million different activities, but he had been looking forward to that race, so far be it from me to keep him from that and baseball!
By the time we got home Saturday afternoon we were exhausted!! I was in bed with lights out at 9pm, a record for me!
Sunday: I slept in since I knew I was working night shift. The Mister is good about letting me sleep in before a night shift. I took the boys to swimming lessons and then to a birthday party! Oy I’m exhausted. And here I am writing at now 4am! Only 3 more hours (and don’t worry, I’m on my break, I’m not writing and taking care of patients at the same time!)
