Happy Monday everyone!! I hope ya’ll had a great weekend! I’m liking up with Tara from Running N Reading for her Weekly Recap roundup! It’s kind of weird now that the Paris Marathon is over. I typically do my training recaps on Mondays, but I feel like I have a whole lotta nothing to talk about in terms of training. Now that marathon season is over, I ‘m taking a well deserved break from running. Well, not a full break, but I’ve decided to focus on a few new areas during the down time before marathon training starts again in July. I said this back in November when I started at Orangetheory (still bummed I can’t make OTF work in my schedule), that I really wanted to get strong before my next marathon. Well, that didn’t happen if you remember because then I got slammed with that 6 week illness. Well, now is the time to get strong. I sat down and plotted my plan of attack on a blank calender from now until July. I’m really excited. I did two strength training workouts last week at the gym and felt amazing. So I can’t wait to see what happens. I’ll be strength training 3 times a week and will be doing HIIT sprints, incline intervals, a long run and one easy run every week. Also add in 2 days of yoga (ideally). If you remember I did my before and after shots back in November. Well, I decided to take new photos and new measurements so I could start from scratch. I’m not going to share them right now, but in a few months, I’m hoping I can show you an impressive before and after! I really hope I can stick with it this time.
Anyway, this weekend was packed full. I’m so behind on replying everyone’s comments on my posts from last week, but I have read them and I’ll respond as soon as I can!
On Friday, Mr. Cupcake took the day off which was awesome because both kids were at school. So DAY DATE!! We both went to the gym and then went out and had a delicious brunch together. Yep, a KID FREE meal.
We had some amazing omelets, but I didn’t take a picture for ya….too bad, so sad.
After lunch, the Mr. went to pick up the kids and I headed out grocery shopping. I had some serious meal planning/prep on tap for the weekend so I had to get all of the ingredients. For the last few months we have been setting aside a day and preparing freezer dinners for several weeks. It has really worked out well and has taken a lot of the stress off. I’m terrible at preparing dinner. It’s usually around 4pm and I’ve forgotten to defrost anything so we end up having plain chicken….again. So this way I just pull it out of the freezer, defrost and cook. All of the proteins are already in their marinades and I just have to come up with a side dish from scratch!
That evening the Mr. and I watched a movie together. We haven’t sat down to watch a movie in probably 6 months! First brunch alone and then a movie? We are just so crazy!! We watched Unbroken. Have you seen it? I had been dying to see it. I’ve had the book sitting on my nightstand for the past year and just haven’t gotten around to it. Such an amazing, inspiring story!
On Saturday one of the sister chapters of MRTT was hosting a fun run at Road Runner Sports. I didn’t really have any mileage planned, but was excited to run with my BRF that had just had a baby. If you recall, we ran Shamrock together and both had huge PR’s. We had both missed running together tremendously so it was so nice to be back out there with her. And I was able to pace her to keep her fastest post baby pace yet!! So proud of her! Oh and did I mention she is a fellow #nuunbassador?! #nuunlove!
Our shoutout to our favorite fuel…Honey Stingers!
We ended up doing 6 miles at a 9:45 pace. Yey Erin!
After the run, I rushed home to get the boys ready for baseball. Mini #1 is playing coach pitch baseball! Mr. Cupcake is coaching, so it’s really been fun for all of us. Well, except me. I don’t get to watch most of the game because I’m chasing Mini #2 around constantly! He wants to play so bad that I’m constantly trying to keep him off the field and keeping him out of the way.
But I did catch a few of his hits this weekend. I’m so proud of him and SO excited that he is loving baseball, my favorite sport (besides running of course)!
After the game we went out to dinner and had some delicious frozen custard from the Dairy Godmother. So yummy. I hadn’t had custard in forever. I forgot how much creamier custard is! Mint Oreo, doesn’t get much better than that…only thing would be if there were chocolate sprinkles on top!
After we got home from dinner we got the kids to bed and for some reason I felt the need to check my work email. Apparently my unit was super short staffed and offering a pretty large bonus to work the 11p-7am shift. I was exhausted and really didn’t want to work, but I couldn’t pass up the extra cash, so I ended up going to work at 11pm. Uggh, let me tell you I worked hard for that money. It was a really busy night and I was exhasuted by the time I got home on Sunday.
Sunday afternoon I woke up around 2pm and got busy on my meal prep! I ended up making 14 meals for the freezer!!
If any of you want to try it, these are the recipes I used!
