Another week, more snow, more wine….that is all. Let’s not beat around the bush and make this a whiny post…I’ll save that for later Linking up again with Tara at Running N Reading for the Weekly Recap!
Here is a rundown of my week, since I KNOW it’s so incredibly captivating 😉
Monday–What do you know?!(Here is the whiny part, I couldn’t NOT bitch about it..) Another freaking school delay. I seriously want to poke my eyeballs out with a pencil. I was able to make it to the treadmill for a 5 mile recovery run after the 18 on Sunday. That was NOT easy. My legs felt like lead. Thank goodness for a meth cooking, drug dealing Walter White for making the time go by..
I haven’t been able to watch House of Cards yet because I’m so addicted to Breaking Bad!
5 miles @ 9:34 pace
Tuesday–Yoga….ahhhh, so great to be back to yoga. I hadn’t been to a class in a while. I typically do my runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays when the classes are offered so I always end up missing it, but since I ran both Sunday AND Monday I figured I would take it easy!
Wednesday–8 Mile run on the treadmill @ 8:52 min/mile! I felt great the entire time!
Thursday–What do you know? We got a big snow storm and school was cancelled…AGAIN. The only GOOD thing about this was that Mr. Cupcake had a snow day too. Luckily the gym was still open in the morning as the weather hadn’t gotten too bad yet, so I went to Yoga again! Twice in one week!!
Friday–Unplanned rest day. Was supposed to get 7 miles in, but the roads were bad, gym in my neighborhood was closed and I had some baking to do! The boys had another snow day, and yey for me, Mr. Cupcake had scheduled a day off this day already…we were supposed to go on a day date while the boys were at school but that didn’t work out unfortunately. It was quite the day….
Don’t judge…you gotta do what you gotta do to get through a snow day.
Saturday–Finally, the roads were good enough to get out to the gym…
5 miles @ 9:30 pace
Finished up a lot of baking for a few birthday parties too. This was one of my favorite things I’ve done…
And then some Angry Birds!
I haven’t baked for a long time before the Princess dress a few weeks ago, so I really enjoyed doing these. It’s funny how stressful and yet how cathartic it can be at the same time!
After the baking was complete we took the boys out for lunch and on a whim decided to take them ice skating. Yeaaaa, that was an interesting experience.
This was the boys’ first time EVER on skates.
Thank goodness for these little penguins for the little kids to practice with….although Mini #2 just wanted to stand on it and have me push him around instead of actually working for it…
This was the expression on my face for most of the time..
And this Mini #1….the ENTIRE time. The kid just wanted to run in the skates and could not for the life of him figure out how to stand up in them.
Lots of tears and frustration by all!
Sunday–So, let’s talk about the long run. It was supposed to be 16 miles. I had to hit the treadmill despite the warm temps because I had to go to work for 3pm and we had some family stuff to do, so I needed to do some pre-dawn miles instead. Despite the time change…uggh. I got the gym and was so ready to nail it. I was cruising and about mile 4 I started to feel that pesky tendinitis that haunted me for MCM in 2013. I ran for about another mile and felt it getting worse and I knew exactly what the problem was. I’m due for new shoes. This is my sign that my shoes are flat and it’s time for a new pair. I knew I was due and was going to go last week but with all of the snow I wasn’t able to.
So, the dilemma was do I continue with my long run and push through the discomfort and risk it getting worse and having to miss Rock N Roll DC this weekend? Or retire the shoes and skip the run.
A year ago I would have pushed through, but I feel like I’ve grown as a runner and have really started listening and taking cues from my body. I’ve been running consistently for the last 3 years and KNOW I can do the distance. So I threw in the towel and retired the shoes and went home. 16 miles is a lot to throw out the window, but I’m confident that I’ll be ok.
The same thing happened last time and I swore I would be better at keeping track of how many miles were on my shoes and clearly that hasn’t happened. I even bought two pair and rotated them. I’ve tried the Milestone pod, but didn’t find it super accurate. So I’m on the quest on how to keep a good record. I’m not good at writing it down for some reason, which is the easiest thing to do especially since I log every run.
