Hey everyone!! Hope you all had a fantastic weekend! It was another fun week around here! I’m starting to get a bit nervous about Paris. I received my keys for the apartment we rented in the mail and that night started having nightmares about forgetting the keys and getting to Paris and having no place to stay. All of the hotels were booked in my dream. It’s so weird how your mind plays tricks on you isn’t it? In the dream I was stranded there all alone, but yet, I’m going with 5 other people in reality. Uggh, I’m stressing unconsciously already!! This is supposed to be fun! My first trip to Europe so I’m sure that has a LOT to do with it. I got really excited as I was looking for Paris Marathon recaps online over the last few weeks and I got super excited. I read DC Rainmakers recap and learned that he was actually a DC local! Him and his wife moved to Paris and opened what? A cupcake bakery!!! How fun, I can’t wait to stop in there and say hello!
Anyway, I’m linking up with Tara again from Running N Reading for the Weekly recap!
Monday– Today was a rest day because I needed to go buy new shoes before I wanted to attempt to run again after my failed run over the weekend. I went and got a new pair of my go-to shoe the Asics Gel Nimbus 17 (affiliate link). Thank goodness I was able to get 20% off and had a gift card…running shoes are no joke. So freaking expensive. No wonder I wait until the last minute to buy a new pair!
Mini #2 also had a day off from school so I took him for a treat at this awesome donut place that just opened recently in Old Town called the Sugar Shack. They really do make some amazing donuts.
I got the Maple Bacon, and OMG was it AMAZING. I figured it was a win-win with the protein on top. My nutritionist taught me to never eats carbs alone, always have protein with it….so I DID follow the rules!
Tuesday--I was supposed to run 8 miles but decided to add a few extra to make up from log run I missed over the weekend. So I ended up with 10 miles @ 8:41 pace. I was very happy with that and my feet and calves LOVED the new shoes.
Yes, those are mega reformers…aka torture devices. And the smile was obviously taken BEFORE the class started because the smile was NOT present during class.
Thursday–I was so sore after Solidcore on Wednesday that my legs felt like complete lead on the treadmill. I was supposed to do 8 miles but ended up with 6 miles @ 9:30 pace instead. I followed that up with my amazing chiropractor, Dr Josh Alvarado. If you are local and need a great chiropractor who treats mostly athletes, this is the guy you want. He is at Arlington Pain and Rehab. I’m telling you, this guy has kept me running over the last year. He really helped me when PT was NOT.
Friday--I hit up the Rock N Roll expo to get my bib for Rock N Roll DC Half Marathon! I actually got dressed in normal clothes, I was so proud of myself!! Andrea has been inspiring me, so here was my first attempt at a cute, casual outfit…
I need to learn some new ways to tie a scarf. My kids looked at me like I had ten heads when they saw me dressed in something other than workout clothes. My kids and my husband call my workout clothes “sweatpants”. I don’t want them to grow up remembering me wearing sweatpants all the time now do I? I try to tell them that they aren’t “sweatpants”, they are yoga pants, because that makes it sound SOOOO much better doesn’t it? I am making it a new goal to put on normal clothes at least…….3 times a week….ok, let’s be realistic….twice….meh…who am I kidding…once a week (not including the scrubs I wear to work). We’ll see if I can stick to it.
I ended up going to the expo by myself which isn’t that fun at an expo, but I didn’t really have time to hang out anyway. I got there when it first opened and it was completely empty. So easy to grab my bib and go. Brooks had a pretty cool setup with a huge shoe that looked like it was to be a bucking bronco, lol. I should have hopped on but I had to meet a friend in Georgetown for a little retail therapy. Athleta was having their Friends and Family sale, so I couldn’t pass that up. I had a store credit that was burning a hole in my wallet.
Saturday–I ran the Rock N Roll DC Half Marathon. I won’t go into much detail because I have a full recap coming on Wednesday. Let’s just say it was very cold and very wet, not exactly how I wanted my first run back outside to go…but as my good friend told me “Embrace the suck.” So that’s what I did and walked away with a shiny new medal!
After the race I was in need of a serious hot shower and some stretching.
That night the preschool that Mini #2 goes to was hosting a Parent’s night out!! We brought both boys and the Mr. and I had a date night! We hit up Ted’s Bulletin in Capitol Hill and had a yummy dinner. I finished it off with an adult milkshake…I went for the Grasshopper made with Kahlua and Creme de Menthe. It was AMAZING. I need to have adult milkshakes more often!
Sunday--Sunday was pretty low key. I lounged around in my PJ’s until almost 1pm. That is extremely rare, but it was well needed. I did wake up really sore from the race which I thought was strange because I’m usually not sore after a long run. And when I say sore, I mean sore like I just lifted weights sore. I guess I didn’t realize how hard it would be on my body to readjust to running back outside since I’ve been on the treadmill all winter. The tendinitis in my right ankle reared it’s ugly head as well unfortunately. I’m pretty sure it was from dodging all of the huge puddles and pot holes in DC during the race, so I’m hoping it will just take a few days to settle down. But until then…I’m taping it up. Not going to lie though, it has me a bit nervous. I’m SO close to the marathon. Only 3 long runs left before we head to Paris. And of course two of them are the most important!
Anyone else have kids that are addicted to “bars”? Lara bars, Cliff Z bars, etc. They are the Mini’s go-to breakfast item. We ran out of them this weekend and I didn’t make it to the store so decided to make some breakfast “cookies”. The kids devoured them, let’s face it, they would devour anything that you called a cookie though. I’m ok with them thinking that they are cookies though when really they are being tricked with a cookie full of healthy goodness! I’m thinking that I may make these instead of buying the bars for the kids! All healthy ingredients and I love the fact that I know what exactly is in them! Seriously, you will want to make these for yourself and your kids. Recipe coming soon.
Total Miles: 29
Well, that about sums up my week. I’ve got a few mid length runs this week, definitely a trip to the chiropractor and an 18 miler over the weekend. Throw in a few cross training days and a night shift at the hospital and I’ll call it good. It’s supposed to be beautiful weather this week, so I’m excited to enjoy some of the great weather with the kiddos!! Hope you all have a wonderful week! Stay tuned for my Rock N Roll DC recap and that yummy breakfast cookie recipe later in the week!
What are the worst weather conditions you have ever run in?
