Hey everyone! How was everyone’s weekend? We had a pretty uneventful weekend as a matter of fact or should I say an uneventful WEEK! So much so that I’m worried that I am going to bore you tears with this post. But here I am anyways and I’m going to apologize in advance if you fall asleep….*yawn*. Seriously, my Sunday ritual is to go through my Iphone pictures for the week and then use them in a post. Well, this week? I had like nothing…so I think as a little twist I might do a little Instagram recap which will STILL probably bore you. As usual I’m linking up with Tara from Running N Reading for the Weekend Recap!
I did a LOT of resting this week. If you recall I had mentioned that my tendinitis flared up after Rock N Roll last week, so I took rest days both on Sunday and Monday of last week just to be safe. Luckily, it was feeling better on Tuesday and I was able to get an 8 mile run in @ 9:22 pace. I did get to run for the first time in these baby’s…..aren’t they pretty? The new Asics Gel Nimbus 17’s, they make me feel like I can fly!
I’m normally doing some sort of cross training days on my non-run days, which are also the days that BOTH kids are in school at the same time for 4 hours. But this week I just felt lazy and just ran errands on those days, no workouts at all. I felt like my body just needed a rest.
Thursday I was able to get a good tempo run in, 7 miles @ 8:51 pace and felt great.
Friday we had more SNOW!! OMG, seriously thank goodness they didn’t cancel school. Luckily it didn’t accumulate and turned to rain, but I about cried when I looked out the window. Friday evening I did a lot of prepping for my long run on Saturday morning. Other than Rock N Roll last week it was the first time I had done a long training run outside. I felt like I had never prepped for a long run before. It’s really quite a process to get everything ready. The last thing I need is to be fumbling around in the dark at 0400 and waking the entire family up, so I need to plan very carefully. And I had to have my “thing” for dinner. Every night before a long run or a race I have to have sweet potato fries.
I’m not sure why, it’s just become a “thing” for me. In fact, I didn’t think we had any in the house and I started to panic. Like tearing apart the freezer in a frenzy looking for them kind of panic. I’m not really sure why this has become an issue, but it has. I have to buy several bags of these at a time and I may or may not start slapping hands that touch them after they are cooked…..MINE ALL MINE.
Anyway, the alarm was set for 0415. The earliest I’ve gotten up in a long time and let me tell you, I wasn’t exactly looking forward to this. We had a good route in DC planned out and we set off on our way. We got to see some really pretty sites in the dark..
I’ve run by this monument a million times and for some reason it is just as powerful today as it was the first time I saw it. I think it’s my favorite monument in DC. Anyway, the run was actually pretty uneventful, which is a good thing I think. It was a beautiful morning, albeit chilly. I’m pretty sure my fingers were ice cubes several times because my crappy gloves weren’t doing the trick. My running partner started to have some leg cramping issues towards the end, so I did a few out and backs to make sure she wasn’t alone (it was light by this point). We ended up with 19 miles @ 9:30 pace. I was pretty excited about it. I finished up and actually felt great. I’m pretty sure I finished on a runner’s high which has never happened to me before. Even my body felt pretty decent, but they may have been because I didn’t get in a car immediately to drive home. We went to an MRTT event afterwards and walked and stood around and I think that made a HUGE difference.
So I’m really getting excited…. only one more BIG (20 miles) run to go before taper time. I really can’t believe Paris is right around the corner. We bought tickets to go the Moulin Rouge while we are in Paris this week too. I’m really excited about that. OH!! And look what Salt created for myself and the other mamas that are running Paris! I can not wait to get this on a shirt!! Salt, I owe you HUGE for this, we absolutely LOVE it!!
I slept in on Sunday morning in anticipation of working night shift. I woke up and was so incredibly sore I could hardly walk down the stairs! I was supposed to do a recovery run, but we got busy with the kids and it didn’t happen. I did get the chance to do a 40 min yoga for runners flow which felt amazing. Then wouldn’t you know, around 5pm I got the call from work that they didn’t need me! Yey, but boo. We could use the money especially right before Paris, but such is life when you are a nurse. I guess that’s good for the kiddos at the hospital, it means there aren’t a lot of patients if they need to cancel me!
Overall it was a GREAT training week as far as runs go! Kind of disappointed in myself that I was pretty lazy on the other days, but I think we all need that once in a while.
I hope you all have a wonderful week! My next recap I’ll get to cheer about being in taper mode! Yahoo!!
