Hey everyone! I hope everyone had a great week! It was an off week for us with snow and several snow days…again. Seems to be a pretty common theme this winter. I am counting down the days til spring. And you know I’m counting down to Paris. I’ve started perusing the interwebs looking for Paris Marathon recaps and tips about going to Paris and I’ve found some great stuff. It’s getting me so excited. Except for one thing. I realized that I have no other clothes other than workout clothes. What the heck am I going to wear?!!! I ordered a Stitch Fix recently and left them very detailed notes on my style, where I was going, etc…but unfortunately for the 4th time in a row they did NOT come through for me. So bummed especially since everyone I know has had great experiences! So back to the drawing board to get a few regular outfits to wear while I’m over there. I’ve been reading that if you want to fit in with the locals you can not wear workout clothes….bummer since that’s what I’m most comfortable in. Their style seems to be pretty edgy too, so not many things to choose from in my closet. And I don’t want to break the bank.
Anyway, enough about that….let’s talk about my training week.
Monday— We drove back from Great Wolf Lodge! Rest day!
Tuesday: We had a snow storm on Monday night and forgive me for the repeat photo, but this was my first time EVER running in the snow. Can you believe that? I’m born and raised in NH and I had never run in the snow. But, I wasn’t a hard core runner when I was a kid, so that would explain that. I tried out my Yaktrax for the first time. I was a bit nervous because I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was actually pretty easy to run on them. What I did NOT expect was how hard my calves were going to work!! They were burning by the end of the run.
On the plan: 8 Miles
What happened: 4 miles @ 10:00 pace (gym was closed and couldn’t muster another 4 miles)
Wednesday— I had an Orangtheory class scheduled but cancelled on Tuesday night in anticipation of a snow day and you guessed it… another snow day for the kiddos. Seriously….this is getting to be a little much. I know I can’t complain because of my friends and family in Boston, but come on!! These kids are driving me batty! Luckily I was able to make it to the gym and get a run in!
6 miles @ 9:00 pace
Thursday: I have been dying to get to a yoga class. I mean like craving it for some reason. I had a 6-7 mile run on the plan but decided to put it off until the evening and do a yoga class in the morning. So glad I did. I just can’t get into the classes at home. I really need to be in the studio and be able to focus all of my attention. So hard to do at home!
The plan was to hit the gym in my neighborhood after the kiddos went to bed. I’m not a nighttime runner, AT ALL. I had no idea what to do for dinner. Should I eat, should I not eat? I thought I had planned it well. I cooked dinner and we all ate at 5:30 pm. I thought that would be plenty of time to digest seeing that I wouldn’t be getting to the gym til close to 8:30. Boy was I wrong. I learned that I can not eat a full meal that close to a run. I ended up burping up my dinner the entire run. It was not pleasant.
6 miles @ 9:11 pace
Friday: Stop Orangetheory time!
Another great workout as usual. We focused on core for the strength portion and it kicked my butt as usual. Those pikes on the ab dolly are KILLER. I am reminded how weak my core is every time I have to do them. Still having a hard time getting that orange time up a bit. The strength portions really kill me. My heart rate comes back to baseline SO quickly that it’s hard to keep it there!
After OTF I came home and worked on a fun project!! I haven’t baked for someone in a while, so I was super excited for this one! As you know I have two boys so doing something girly is a lot of fun. And to get to make a princess cupcake cake?! SO FUN. I love how it turned out!
Saturday: Rest day for me. I took Mini #1 to a birthday party for one of his school friends and then we came home and hung out inside all day as we watched an amazing snow fall. Yep, another snowstorm….we were a bit worried because my mom was supposed to fly in to visit and we weren’t sure she would make it. The snow caused a lot of problems here in the DC area. The storm started earlier than expected, so early in fact that the trucks hadn’t been able to start treating the roads yet. That led to horrible road conditions and car pileups everywhere. Mr. Cupcake braved the traffic and roads to go pick her up at 9pm. It took them over 2 1/2 hours to get home, but mom finally made it safely!
Sunday: Long run day! It was a serious bump back week for me with only 8 miles on the plan. I was so glad because I wasn’t sure I could handle another 16 miles on the treadmill just yet. It was supposed to be a gorgeous day with spring like temps but the ground was a sheet of ice this morning and I didn’t want to wait around all day. So, back to the treadmill….again.
8 miles @ 9:00 pace
Super excited because I got to go to yoga in the evening as well. Local Motion Studio (review coming soon) had asked me to come and try out one of their classes and so I chose Candlelight yoga.
I thought what a great way to end a week at home with the kiddos. The stress level was starting to rise so I thought this would be perfect! And let me tell you it was just what I needed! It was awesome!
I kept up with the #taketheleap challenge as well this week. Here’s a look at my Instagram photos for the challenge. I’m still amazed…this is the ONLY challenge I have EVER kept up with, so I’m pretty proud of myself. I’m usually good for the first week and things drop off, but not this time!
Once again, linking up with Tara from Running N Reading!! Go check her out if you get a chance!
How was your week?
Anyone have another snowstorm?
Anyone ever do Candlelight yoga?
Have you ever used an ab dolly to do core work?
Any advice on what to bring with me to wear in Paris?
