Hey everyone! Hope everyone has had a great week and has been staying warm. It has been absolutely frigid here and today we even hit the coldest it’s ever been since we moved to DC. With the windchill it was -11 degrees! It wasn’t a very exciting week, and I feel like my runs were just ok. I’m linking up again with Tara from Running N Reading!
Here’s a rundown.
Tuesday: I had an Easy/Med Run on tap. It was supposed to be 8 miles but I only did 4. It was just one of those days and I just wasn’t feeling it. A year ago I would have beat myself up about it, but now, meh, I know my body can do the mileage, so I’m not too worried. Some days are like that I guess.
Wednesday: Another awesome OTF class! I burned the most calories that I have burned there yet. My legs were shaking by the end. I’m still spending a little too much time in the green zone but I’m finding it SO hard to get myself in the orange zone. I felt like I was going to puke several times while in the orange zone this time, which means that I’m really having to work for it. I guess that’s what happens when you have a runner’s heart. It get’s so conditioned that it takes a lot more for it to work harder!
Thursday: Thursday’s are my tempo run days. Have I told you how much I love tempo runs? I know a lot of people think I’m crazy, but I always feel so accomplished when I do a tempo run and do it well. I felt great the entire time despite starting to feel the soreness from OTF.
Splits: 9:49, 9:08, 8:32, 8:21, 8:00, 9:21
Friday: Ok, so here is a dilemma I’ve been facing…..My gym offers yoga on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the mornings that I do my runs on. I only get 2 hours of childcare and if I did both wouldn’t have enough time for the child watch. So that means I usually end up skipping yoga. I like yoga but I don’t feel an overwhelming need to do a class all of the time, except for this week. I really felt like I needed to do a class and just wasn’t able to. I normally would have done an OTF class but I was so incredibly sore from Wednesday’s class that I decided against it because I had my long run planned for Saturday and really wanted my legs to be fresh. I dropped the kids off at school and remembered that our P90X DVD’s had a yoga DVD, so I popped that in. I only did about 45 minutes of it, but I’m definitely glad I did. I must say though, I don’t really enjoy doing it at home. I much prefer a class, I feel like I can really concentrate so much better during an organized class for some reason. Anyone else feel that way?
Friday night, mini #1 was SO excited because his school was having a Valentines day dance. Specifically a Mother/son, Father/daughter dance. He was so stinking cute about this….when I was getting ready for the dance, he came up to me and said, “Mommy, I think it would really be nice if you wore a dress to the dance so you can look like a princess.” Well shoot, how do you say no to that?
I had more intentions of dancing but he wanted nothing to do with it. He just ran around like a mad man juiced up on sugar from all of the cookies and cupcakes. He had fun, so I guess that’s all that matters! I did too of course!
Saturday: Long run day was here! It was still super cold and I knew I was hitting the treadmill again. Not going to lie, this was a rough one. Although I was able to stick to my pace, mentally? This was a huge struggle. I hopped on an off so many times for 10 second breaks. Not because I was tired, but because I just couldn’t mentally handle it, despite having my running buddy next to me and my Netflix going. Uggh…at least I got it done. My running buddy had to jump off at 14 because of some horrible blisters on her toes.
16 miles @ 9:30 pace
That night Mr. Cupcake and I had a really low key Valentine’s day. We don’t really celebrate, so we just hung out and had a few glasses of wine together!
Sunday: On the schedule….recovery run….didn’t do it. Since it’s a long weekend we decided to take the kids to Great Wolf Lodge. My parents had gotten us a gift card to take them, so we figured with the frigid weather we would head down to Williamsburg and get our swim on! We really had a great time for the kids…good excuse to skip a run, at least that’s what I’m telling myself
I’m still keeping up with the #taketheleap yoga challenge with Prana and FitApproach too! And still having fun, even though I’m not very good at it. How is everyone else doing with it? And if you aren’t doing it, maybe you are on the same page as Courtney.
Here’s a look at my poses for the week!
I used to be so good at backbends when I was a teenager. I was a cheerleader and did gymnastics and used to love these. Amazing how inflexible you get as you age!
This one clearly needs a lot of work….
Oh, and in case you were needing some new rocking yoga clothes, Prana is offering 15% off to all of you!
Use code: leapnpinks15
It’s good for 15% off and valid through 2/28/15
Well, that’s it for this week!
Total mileage: 29
I hope you all have a great week! I’ve got a bump back week in mileage that I am REALLY looking forward to this week!!
Did you do anything special for Valentine’s Day?
If you cut a run short, do you make up the miles or press on?
Tell me something fun you did this week!
