Hey everyone! Hope you all had a great week and weekend! I wanted to start off with a few house keeping items and some great discounts for ya’ll! I posted a few on my Facebook page, but not sure how many of you get to see my posts anymore.
So, first off, I was asked to be a Navy-AF Half Marathon & 5 Miler Ambassador!! I am super excited about this. I ran it last year and absolutely loved it!! The race is held in September which is the most amazing time of year here in DC with some great running weather. It’s a great time of year to visit DC and make a RACECATION out of it! Well, registration opens TODAY!!! So go get yourself registered at the LOWEST price you will get! And if you enter “SUE” as your referral you will be entered to win a Tech Race shirt! The regular shirts are cotton, so don’t miss out on this! So feel free to share with your friends!!! And spread the word!!
This race is pretty cool because it’s one of the races you must run to earn the ULTIMATE WARRIOR MEDAL!! So if you are in it for the bling…you WANT this. The medal is an achievement medal for those who participate in 3 United States Military organized races between Monday, September 15, 2014 and Sunday, September 20, 2015. The medal is mailed to you after you complete the Navy-Air Force Half Marathon or Navy 5 Miler.
All you need to do is participate in 3 races that are organized by a US Military Service Branch (Air Force, Army, Marine, or Navy) and one race MUST be the Navy-Air Force Half Marathon or Navy 5 Miler.
You will have the option to place your order during race registration. A limited number of UWM are available for purchase. It’s looks pretty awesome if you ask me!!
Next up…. I had mentioned I was selected to be a Rock N Blogger for the Rock N Roll Race Series….Well, they sent me an awesome discount code for you all!! Who wants to run a Rock N Roll Half marathon or marathon this year??!
Enter the code “RUNSFORCUPCAKES” as a promo code during registration and get $15 off ANY Rock N Roll race (with the exception of Las Vegas, Mexico, 1 mile, 5K, 10K and tour passes)!! That is a great deal! So if you’ve been eyeing of those races, get to it and register! I’ll be hitting DC, Vegas and one other destination to be determined, so I hope I see some of you out there!
So let’s get down to business and see how the week went. I’m linking up again with Tara from Running N Reading for her weekend recap, so go check her out if you get a chance!
Monday–I took Monday off and got to have lunch with two of my BRF’s! One of whom is about to give birth! We…well I had a few mimosas and tried out the new Sugar Shack and had a Red Velvet donut…OMG, heaven. I’m not a big donut fan but this was amazing. She had just installed her new infant seat and it was snowing so I wanted to take no risks with the transporting of the champagne. Hey man, a girl has to protect the bubbly. Priorities, you know?!
While at my friends house, I discovered this book and ordered it immediately upon returning home from Amazon (affiliate link). There are so many amazing recipes in here, I can’t wait to try them out!
Tuesday— My plan from my coach had me doing an easy 8 miles. I really wanted to go to yoga because I really feel like my body needed the stretching but I wasn’t able to squeeze in both. I only get 2 hours of childcare and would have run over, such a bummer. So I hit the treadmill for 8 miles at a 9:30 pace and finished off with some stretching and core work.
Wednesday–My Orangetheory day! I really look forward to these workouts and I was especially looking forward to it because Courtney joined me!! I absolutely adore Courtney, she is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. I almost had to cancel due to a ANOTHER school delay but my AMAZING, pregnant BRF said she would take mini #2 to school for me (her daughter and mini are in the same class).
It was a super tough workout, in fact one of the toughest workouts I’ve had by far at OTF. We started off with a 1 mile run (pretty much as fast as you could run it) then jumped on the rower and rowed 1600m, then jumped back on the treadmill for another .25 mile sprint and back on the rower for 400m. Then came the floor….oy. Dumbbell step ups, bench hop overs, lateral step overs, tap squats followed by seated knee tucks for the circuit. The reps were killer….12/14/16/18/20. I sweat like I had never sweat before, and my legs were complete jelly at the end. As usual, a kickass workout.
Thursday–Tempo run on tap, my first tempo run since October and it was tough, but I did it. My legs were sore, but not as bad as I had expected after OTF on Wednesday. My goal pace for miles 2-5 were 8:17. I tried but just couldn’t maintain it. But they ended up being 8:30 which I was VERY happy with! It was definitely hard and I wanted to stop several times but I pushed through. I followed it up with some serious stretching and hip work.
Then I went to the chiropractor. I don’t usually go immediately after a workout but I think maybe I should from now on!
Friday— It was supposed to be another OTF day, but hubby had an unexpected early meeting and couldn’t be late (I was scheduled for 6am). I cancelled and took a rest day instead!
Saturday– Another rest day!
Sunday–So I’m still having some residual lung issues after being sick over the holidays and running outside in the cold weather is a no go for me still. Which meant I had to hit the treadmill AGAIN. But seriously, the treadmill holds me accountable so much better than outside. I love being able to set my pace and sticking to it!! I got 14 miles in, my longest treadmill run yet!! It was a 9:25 average and I got progressively faster and even surprised myself with my last mile. Miles 1-6 were at a 9:30 pace, miles 7-13 @ 9:13 and mile 14…wait for it…8:49!!! I was so freaking excited. For the first time I felt like I was getting my groove back. Cheers to that!
