Ask any runner what one of the first things they think about in the new year, and they would probably tell you their race schedule. Heck, most of us plan the following years race schedule before the year even starts. And I’m totally guilty. Personally, I need races on my schedule to keep me accountable and on track. I like having something to train for, in fact, I really need the structure. Taking care of two small boys can be so unpredictable on a day to day basis, that staying in training gives me something consistent and constant in my life.
Seriously, planning my race schedule is tough. There are so many amazing races here in DC that I just want to register for ALL of the races. I’m pretty sure my husband would divorce me if I did that and we would probably go bankrupt, so as of right now, these are the ones I’ve decided on. I’m sure there will be some late additions later in the year.
March 1—Pacers St Pat’s Double
(5K followed by a 10K), this is a new one for me. Pacers races are always amazing, so I’m super excited for this one!
March 14—Rock N Roll DC
I am really excited to be running this again. This was my first half marathon post baby, in fact it was my first half marathon in 5 years after we moved to DC. I’ll be running as part of the Rock N Blog team!
April 12—Paris Marathon
Are there really any words for this?? I can’t believe I”m going run the Paris Marathon in less than 90 days. One of the top 3 marathons in the world. Holy crap. Kind of freaking out actually because I’m about 6-7 weeks behind in my training because of my illness. I’ve resolved myself to the fact that I won’t be pushing for a PR, I just want to go and enjoy the experience.
April 26—GW Parkway 10 Miler
One of my favorite races in the area. This race starts at Mt. Vernon and ends in Old Town Alexandria, following along the Potomac River. It’s a beautiful race and I’ve done it every year since we moved here.
May 3—Frederick Half Marathon
I deferred this race last year due to my calf injury. I’ve heard it’s a great race and I’m excited to give it a shot this year!
Also deferred from last year due to injury, so going to give it a shot again! It is so close to home, it’s kind of hard NOT to do it!
September 20—Air Force/Navy Half Marathon
Not registered yet, but I loved this race last year and of course the military races hold a special place in my heart, so this one is a no brainer.
Sept 26—Clarendon Day double
I did this one last year as well and really enjoyed it. The double includes doing a 5K first followed by a 10K.
Oct 2-3 Ragnar DC
SO EXCITED for this one. I can’t wait to do this with my MRTT Mamas, our team name? The NO DRAMA MAMAS. I really need no drama after the last one I did!
Several races are still up in the air. I need to pick two other Rock N Roll races as part of the Rock N Blog team. I’m thinking Virginia Beach, Philly or Brooklyn for one, and possibly Las Vegas for the 3rd. My MIL lives in Vegas so it would be a good opportunity to take the boys out for a visit. And plus it’s Vegas Baby, the chance to run the strip at night sounds like a blast!
The other dilemma? A few days after MCM last year my husband said he was thinking he might want to do MCM this year since it was the 40th anniversary. Ummmm……
My first reaction (in my head of course) was, “Oh HELL NO. This running thing is MY thing, not yours!!”And then I said, “of course honey, it’s not ALL about ME. If you would like to run it I think you should.” I’m just not sure we could BOTH train for a marathon at the same time. We would have to give up our summer of weekends to do it, so this is something we need to seriously discuss, and soon. The NYC Marathon lottery opens tomorrow too, but that would still entail training at the same time. So lots to talk about. It’s kind of funny because I had no intention of running a fall marathon. I was going to do Paris and then be done for the year, but then I heard it was the 40th anniversary and I wanted to jump back on the bandwagon. I guess we’ll see if there is a fall marathon in my future! I’ve been hearing a lot of people saying to do both, but I’m not sure I could handle two marathons a week apart. The other option could to be either try and PR a half marathon in the fall OR go for a 50K with Beachyrunner. The race I’m thinking about is in December so our training would only overlap a little bit. Hmmm, decisions, decisions! So many races, not enough time (or money): 2015 Race Schedule @suzy399 #motherrunner #fitfluential #sweatpink Click To Tweet
