So I’m a little late with this post because of my 12 Days of Christmas giveaways, but better late than never right?! Congrats to all of the winners! Everyone has been notified and the winners can be found on the individual posts in the widget! Thanks so much to everyone for participating!!
I’m linking up (or maybe not because the link up might be closed by the time this publishes) with Miss Zippy for the Year of Running 2014!
Best Race Experience: My best race experience in 2014 would have to be the Shamrock Half Marathon. I had a HUGE PR from 2:02 to 1:50 and I really trained with everything I had. I gave that race everything I had and more and it paid off! I also ran with my BRF and we had a great weekend racecation!
Best Run: My best run of the year would be the Reston 10 Miler. I felt great from the moment that race started until the second I crossed the finish line. I was happy and had a blast
I had not one complaint and not one ache or pain….that would be the last run of the year that went “injury” free.
Best new piece of gear: Best new piece of gear would be the Racedots!
Best piece of running advice: It’s OK to rest. We all have such a hard time accepting this, but I learned it many times this year when I was forced to rest during several nagging “injuries”. I have now learned to embrace the rest days and actually look forward to them. Accepting this is partof a growing process I’ve found however. We get caught up in the excitement of races and PR’s and running buddies and it’s fun and we don’t want to stop. I’ve found that you can tell your best running friends to rest and to enjoy it, but they won’t until they actually finally have their own “a ha” moment.
Most inspirational runner: All of the mamas in my MRTT chapter are so inspirational to me. I’ve seen so many grow and challenge themselves, I really am in awe of them.
If you could sum up your year in a few words what would they be? Challenging
Now, I also missed another link up that I was going to participate in that was hosted by Montana at Pretty Lil Mudder. So here it is!
My Year in Racing 2014
Most scenic course: Shamrock Half…there isn’t much better than running on the coast and crossing the finish line and immediately getting to walk into the sand and water!
Most challenging course: Stonewall Jackson 20 Miler….the hills…oh the hills in the middle of nowhere with no course support. Definitely a challenge.
Best expo: A tie between MCM and the Shamrock Half. The Shamrock would win in the end because I got to meet the famous Bart Yasso!
Best post race food: Stonewall Jackson…there wasn’t much but what they did have spoke for itself. Where else can you have a Chick Fil A sandwich waiting for you?
Best swag: Zooma Annapolis by far, although Shamrock comes a close second.
Most unique medal: Ragnar Chicago, probably no surprise there!
Favorite race shirt: I’m not sure I can pick just one! I loved them all I had them made into a blanket!
Favorite overall race: Shamrock Half It was a fabulous girls weekend with my BRF….road trip….beer and PR’s for both…despite my ahemmm…tummy trouble.
Best course support: MCM The crowd support at this race is AMAZING….there is only one 3 mile section where the crowd is limited, otherwise people line the entire 26.2 miles with posters, costumes and really gets you pumped up. Seeing that my only marathons have been MCM, I’m worried that I may have the bar set a little too high for a future marathon that may not be like that. Even got to see Christine out there!
Race you are most proud of for completing: This is a tough one, probably MCM. It was a very tough race for me mentally and physically. I wanted to walk off the course so many times but didn’t. And even PR’d despite hitting the “wall”!
You can see everyone else’s Race awards here!
