Merry Christmas Eve!! I can’t believe that Christmas is here tomorrow!! Ahhh!!! Well, I must say that it’s a good thing I had all of these giveaways prewritten and prescheduled for the last few weeks, because if not….you wouldn’t have heard ANYTHING from me. I hope you enjoyed all of the awesome giveaways. And that you gave all of the sponsors some love for it!!
It’s been pretty miserable up here in our house. If you recall, I ended up with a 103 fever right after Thanksgiving.
Well, it all pretty much went downhill from there. After Mini #2’s birthday I pretty much was in bed for the rest of the week. I came down with a horrible, bronchitis like cough that kept me up all night for about 5 days straight. I had to sleep sitting up on the couch to even give me a chance to not cough. It was pretty miserable. I finally decided to go to the doctor that Friday. I was given the diagnosis of Tracheobronchitis and sent home with an antibiotic and cough medicine with codeine (which let’s face it, that’s the ONLY reason I went to the doctor) and an inhaler since I have a history of asthma (which will end up not helping my case). I started the antibiotics and got a good 3 days into them and started to feel slightly better. And when I say slightly, I mean I got out of my pajamas for the first time in a week.
We had absolutely no groceries, so after school drop off on Monday, I headed to the grocery store. No sooner did I pull in the parking lot did I get a phone call from the school nurse. Mini #1 wasn’t feeling well. The nurse had looked in his ears and said he looked like he had an ear infection. He didn’t look terrible when I picked him up, and let’s face it, we had a completely EMPTY refrigerator, so we went back to the grocery store and then stopped to get a beverage to waste a little time before picking Mini #2 up at school. We both had our electronic devices and plopped ourselves down in Starbucks for an hour. He experienced his very first hot chocolate!
Fast forward a few hours and we head to the doctor. Turns out he has double ear infections. Goes on antibiotics as well. Meanwhile, I’m starting to feel pretty crappy again. The congestion has now moved deeper into my chest and also moving into my sinuses. My cough remains terrible. #1 stays home from school on Tuesday and Wednesday with fever.
Wednesday: Mini #2 comes down with a high fever.
Thursday: Mini #2 STILL has 102 fever.
Friday: Mini #2 STILL has 102 fever. Time to take him into the doctor. And what do you know? Double ear infections….really suspicious since ear infections aren’t contagious. The doctor asks if anyone else is sick and the house and ummmm, YEA…I describe everyone’s symptoms and she thinks we all had the FLU!! But wait!! I had the flu test TWO weeks ago…apparently the rapid test doesn’t pick up certain strains. She said we all had symptoms of Haemophlous influenza. Kids present with ear infections and eye infections and adults present with bronchitis like symptoms. It was like textbook. We would need blood tests for a definitive diagnosis but it sounded pretty right on to me. All too coincidental with BOTH kids having ear infections (mind you they have never had an ear infection in their LIFE) and me with bronchitis. Mini #2 goes on antibiotics.
Fast forward another week…I’m still feeling like crap and was starting to feel depressed and really just bummed. I had such high hopes for my crosstraining in this off period before marathon training started. Well, training “started” last week, and I have yet to run or cross train. I’ve run twice since MCM and I haven’t been to Orangetheory Fitness in over a month.
It’s finally Christmas Eve and I’m feeling so much better. Definitely not back up to par…still struggling with some reactive airway/bronchitis issues and am still using an inhaler. When I do get to run again, it looks like it will have to be inside because the cold air makes me go into a horrible coughing fit .
Anyway, preparation for Christmas was well, non-existant. We did manage to get our tree up, and I tried to put on a happy face for the kiddos..
Tried some new to me home remedies out of desperation…ever heard of “oil pulling“? Yea, me neither until a friend of mine mentioned it. I only did it once because well, it’s kind of inconvenient to swish coconut oil around in your mouth for 20 minutes at a time. If I didn’t talk to my kids for that long there would be hell to pay. Does it work? Not sure, I only did it once, but a lot of people swear by it to help remove toxins out of the body.
I also experimented with some essential oils and some nasty apple cider vinegar concoctions, which OMG, I will NEVER do again. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
And thank goodness for Amazon Prime, otherwise Santa probably wouldn’t be making an appearance at our house.
Poor Mini #1 had his 6th Birthday amongst all of this sickness and was devastated when we had to cancel his party…I felt terrible and promised we would reschedule in January…he had to settle for some store bought cupcakes (Shocking, I know). There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with that, but apparently I screwed myself by setting the bar high from the get go… he now thinks that I bake ALL of the cupcakes. Luckily I think he was none the wiser other than the fact that they were some of the WORST cupcakes I’ve ever had from Cakelove. I know I’m kind of a cupcake snob as far as quality, but these were terrible…..even Mr. Cupcake agreed. Oh well, the kids didn’t care.
And of course now that I’m feeling better, guess what I get to do….potty train Mini #2. It is definitely not going as well with this one as it did with the first one. I’ve had poop handed to me several times and lots of laundry. Fun times.
All in all, December has been a really shitty month! Bahahah, no pun intended!! Not to be a Debbie Downer, but it has. It was really stressful for all of us and I’m thankful that I have such a wonderful husband that didn’t bat an eye and took over all of the home duties in addition to his working ones as well. I’m a lucky girl. But we are all pretty ready for this month to be over so we can reconnect as a family. I’m looking forward to the new year and starting fresh.
Marathon training is a whole different story. Not sure what’s happening with that at the moment seeing training was supposed to start three weeks ago. I haven’t been to Orangetheory in a month and my eating went in the toilet (I’m sensing a potty theme here..poor choice of words maybe) when I got sick. So, LOTS of work to be done to get remotivated as soon as I get my energy back. I’m still getting winded just walking up the stairs of our townhome. So lots to come on THAT!
I did get some fun news over the last week though! First off, I’m super excited to announce that I have been selected to represent NUUN as one of their Ambassadors for 2015!! I have been using Nuun since I started my running journey and rave about it all the time, so I’m super excited about this and to be representing them and sharing the #nuunlove!
And then…..only a few days later I found out that I was selected to be a Rock N Blogger for the Rock N Roll Marathon Race series!
So what does that mean?
I’ll get to run 3 Rock N Roll races over next year! I still haven’t decided what 3 I will do, but you can bet DC will be on the list! Finally on the mend...and some fun announcements with @suzy399 #motherruner #running #nuunlove #rocknblog Click To Tweet
Sorry for the long rambling post, but wanted you all to get caught up! Kind of my “Thinking out Loud” post for the week…..even though it’s not Thurday.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday with your families tomorrow! Eat, drink and spend some wonderful time with your families! Merry Christmas!
