How many of you like fitness apps for your phone? I’ve been on the lookout for a good one for a while. When I was at the Fit Foodie Run in Fairfax, VA this past June, The Fitness Games had a small tent promoting their new app.
I remember looking at the info and thinking “this is really cool!” At that point it was still in it’s beta stages and not available to the public yet, but it stayed on my radar for a while. Fast forward a few months and the app became live! I was lucky enough to be selected through my Ambassadorship with Fit Approach to review the app. I was really excited to get to try it out because I’m always looking for new ideas for workouts. I have a hard time coming up with things on my own and like the motivation of having others to do it with.
“The only app on the market that takes real time activity and turns it into a game. Here you can compete in workouts world wide, ACTUALLY challenge your friends to a workout (locally and internationally) and post fitness photos, videos, and “Gym Selfies” for others to like, comment, and follow you.”
It is a FREE app and for a nominal fee, you can upgrade to the Platinum edition to gain access to more workouts.
After entering a bit of information about yourself , you will fine the home page that gives you the option to pick out which type of workout you would like to participate in: Strength, Cardio, Full Body or Cross Training.
You also have access to your “feed” which is basically like any social media feed where you can see your “friends” and what challenges they have been doing. You can search for friends that you know, or even do a worldwide search as well. And soon, you will be able to connect to your Facebook friends. There is also a TFG Facebook group where you can connect with other users.
If someone sends you a challenge you will see a red number next to the “New Challenges” category. Next is your workout tracker which is basically like a calendar that keeps track of when you worked out and when you participated in a challenge.
After you find a friend you want to challenge you will see the following screen where you will pick what workout you want to do!
You now have the opportunity to choose your workout or even create your own!
Here you will start your challenge.
If you don’t know what a certain exercise is….simply tap the exercise and it will show you a video on how to do it!
I challenged my friend Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and it was a lot of fun! I also challenged myself by doing one of the bodyweight challenges and let me tell you, the workouts are TOUGH. They are no joke.
All in all, I think it’s a great app for people that need some motivation to get moving. It makes it fun and if you have a competitive spirit, this is the app for you. My only issue with the app is that most of the workouts are gym workouts, so if you don’t have the equipment, you have to find a different workout. But overall, very fun!! Go check it out!
