This week I had a revelation. I’m pretty sure I’m not going to meet my original goal for MCM. And you know what? That’s ok. My original goal was to take 43 minutes off of my time last year and run it in 4 hours. Yea, 43 minutes, kind of a lofty goal I’ll admit, but I thought it was totally doable, especially if I was healthy. Unfortunately, sometimes life gets in the way, and injuries get in the way. I’m pretty sure that if I had been healthy all training it probably wouldn’t be an issue. But because of almost 3 weeks of traveling this summer and almost 4 weeks off for calf issues, I have accepted the fact that I need to readjust my goals. So, with that being said, my new goal for MCM is to come in sub 4:30. I’m not going to lie. I’m about done with this training cycle. My enthusiasm is lacking and I just don’t really have the desire which isn’t helping for sure. The thought of Paris? I’m not even sure I want to run. I know, I know. Don’t worry, I will be running, but after Paris, I will be taking a break from the marathon distance for a while. I think I will be reaching for some different running goals which have yet to be determined.
Here’s a look at how my training went this week!
Tuesday–Hit the treadmill for my tempo 1 easy, 4 @ 8:20, 1 easy. I must say, I really do enjoy my dates with Kevin Spacey on the treadmill every week. I’m finally getting to catch up on House of Cards! Also did Piyo Sweat!
Wednesday— Piyo Core + barre class at Pure Barre. The wonderful ladies at Pure Barre hosted an awesome class for my MRTT mamas! I really love barre classes. I love to discover muscles I don’t ever use, but the next day? Yea, I could barely sit on the toilet seat. I would love to be able to do this more consistently as cross training but it’s so darn expensive! I did find a Groupon-ish deal though, so I’m excited to take some classes. I think I’ll start after MCM and really work on my tucking skills!
Thursday— So, hitting Barre class the night before speed work, probably not the best idea in the world. So when I arrived to the track and saw this….I came very close to turning around and going home.
But, I didn’t. We found an open fence to walk through…unfortunately I changed my planned workout and ended up doing 400’s x 5. My legs were so sore, I had a really hard time turning my legs over quickly. I did a total of 4.3 miles with these as my 400 splits…2:08, 1:33, 1:39, 1:47, 1:51. MUCH better than I had thought, but after the last one I was done. D.O.N.E.
Friday— REST and work night shift. So I think I told you all that I’ve been doing the 21 day reset with Mommy Run Fast. I’ve eliminated grains except for quinoa and farro, all packaged foods and sugar with the exception of maple syrup and honey in moderation. I’m finishing up week 2 and feeling great. I have lost all of my sugar cravings which is pretty huge for me, as that is my weakness. And on night shift, I always end up running to the the snack box and diving into to some M&M’s. I’m excited to report that I didn’t even have the desire to hit up the snack cart during my shift! I don’t feel as bloated and icky anymore either. I didn’t realize how crappy I really was eating before.
Sunday–16 Miler on tap! Only 3 long runs to go before taper time! This was a GREAT run. This is the first time I’ve been able to say that in a long time. My training plan called for a 9:17 pace, while we didn’t hit 9:17, we did hit an average 9:19 pace, so I was pretty darn happy with that. I had absolutely no pain and never hit a mental wall! It was awesome. I had a little fun too…
So excited after this run, I really really needed a good run like this to get my running mojo back.
Tonight I get to head to my MRTT Chapter’s 2nd Birthday party! I can’t believe my journey with MRTT has been 2 years now. I started the chapter not knowing what to expect and with very little participation….now? We are over 1,000 members! It has been a LOT of work, but totally worth it. So excited to celebrate tonight!
And if you haven’t checked out my Favorite mom moments…you really should…one more favorite…someone found me on Twitter and sent me this pic that she took at the kids race that Mini #2 won! How fun is this?!
I hope you all had a great week!!
Anyone ever done barre class?
How do you deal with it when you have to adjust your goals? Do you do A, B & C goals?
Who ran long? How was it?
