It’s been kind of an uneventful week here in DC. I’m still seeing the chiropractor, but less than before which is a step in the right direction. I really am feeling a HUGE difference in my calf in the last week. No more pain, just tightness in the calf which is great news! I am really itching to get back out there and am so excited that marathon training starts in July! I have had to make a few tough decisions about some races I had planned on however. I was shooting for Half Fanatic status and was going to achieve that by running the Alexandria Half Marathon on Memorial Day weekend and then the Zooma Half Marathon 5 days later. Doable if I was healthy, but not doable especially since I have Ragnar Chicago the following weekend after Zooma. I have decided to play it safe and not run the Alexandria Half and I will also plan on dropping down to the 10K for Zooma. Not what I had wanted, but necessary. I am really looking forward to Ragnar and don’t want to let my Swirlgear teammates down. I have a developed a plan for nursing my calf in between my legs too that will hopefully optimize my performance during the relay. More to come on that. Here is a glimpse at the week:
Monday: rest day
Tuesday: The Endurance Athlete Center in Falls Church, VA had a Facebook special going on this month. They were offering a free hour on the Alter G treadmill. I had to jump on this especially dealing with this calf issue. The Alter G is an anti-gravity treadmill used for rehab from injuries/surgeries and also a lot of athletes use it during training to lessen the pounding on the joints during endurance training.
Space man compression shorts…looks like a skirt but it’s not.
I’ll have a full post coming on the Alter G treadmill to really explain and get into the nitty gritty!
After the Alter G, I hit this great restaurant called the Protein Bar…OMG, amazing, I wish I could eat there every day. They have these great Quinoa bowls, smoothies and more!
Wed: rest day/chiropractor
Friday: 5 miles on treadmill/core The run felt great, no pain at all. I wanted to go further but had to keep my excitement at bay.
Saturday: 5 miles + 30 min yoga Had a great group run with my MRTT gals and then headed to Blue Nectar Yoga in Falls Church for a special 30 minute yoga class just for us!
Sunday: core and worked at the hospital!
And now for some random musings…
Found this bar this week and totally loving it!
This drink is amazing. I am really on a chia kick obviously…I was worried about the texture of the rehydrated chia in a drink form but I was pleasantly surprised. It was a bit weird at first, but I’m definitely digging it.
And last but certainly not least and not even remotely running related….WTF?! When did socks with open toed sandals come back into style??? Just say NO!!!
How was your week?
Socks with sandals? Yey or Ney?
Do you like Chia? What is your favorite chia product/recipe.
Have you heard of the Alter G?
Anyone ever tried the R8 Roller?
